NVRAM reset > SMC reset > Safe Mode > Recovery.
For Silicon CPU Macs (after 2020) NVRAM and SMC reset steps are not applicable, as NVRAM and SMC functions handled differently. In that case just restart Mac with Apple menu > Restart.
Battery-related problems
Battery not charging or being recognized issues not solved with NVRAM but SMC reset on Intel CPU Macs (before 2020). Battery and charging issues on Macs after 2020 can sometimes be resolved through macOS updates or macOS Recovery.
If the issue persists after resets repairs may be necessary.
